Hunters House: A Good Find All Around
You know the place and really, it’s your loss if you don’t. I can halfway guarantee that (if you live in the area) you’ve seen it while driving by, or it’s been pointed out to you by your father, maybe even a grandfather, and, of course, there’s no doubt in my mind you’ve been told the story of Hunter House and what it’s famously known for – and that, my friends, is its hamburgers!
At a glance, you would think that it was a White Castle just by viewing its exterior, however when it comes to the interior, just because they make some mean sliders doesn’t necessarily mean it doesn't measure up. In other words, Hunters House blows White Castle straight clean out of the water.
The all white, geometrically shaped building with big, black block letters spelling HAMBURGERS is by far the best place to come and quench that aching hunger in your belly.
And, believe it or not, this fine establishment has been pleasing people just the same for decades. Hunters House came to be in 1952 and has always served the people with mouth-watering food simultaneously leaving lasting impressions on generations to come.
“A lot of people have been coming here for years,” says night manager Antonio Wilcher. “There are so many generations of families that stop in here. A lot of people already know about the place, maybe they’ve told their grandchildren about it, and they love it just the way it is. They come in for that nostalgic factor!”
The 1950’s style interior really sets the scene and the history created by the people gracing its floors within is also something worth documenting for future years.
“We’re just one of the old school diners still in existence today,” states Wilcher. And he’s right! Diners like this are hard to come by nowadays. Come to think of it – do you really ever hear the word diner anymore? Not I. Such originality makes Hunters a great stop along the way during the Cruise.
This year is much bigger and, of course, much better! Huge tents, four bands, Elvis and a DJ are just the entertainment aspect of the fun Hunters has in store. "We want people to enjoy this outdoor experience we're providing for them this week," says Wilcher.
And don’t forget – Hunters House has a guy outside all week long approaching cars that are stopped at the light and supplying bags of five burgers, which come with ketchup, mustard and pickle. Last year during the Cruise they sold approximately 22,000 burgers.
The best thing about all of this is that you don’t have to leave your car. Everyone knows parking is more than scarce during the Cruise, and Hunters House provides a service allowing you to stay within the comfort of your ride but still enjoy the pleasures of a good burger. Do yourself a favor and add Hunter House to your list of places to stop at – it's sure to be one you won't soon forget.
