Fifth Annual Automotive Authors Book Fair

Twenty-five authors from across the United States and Canada will meet with the public to discuss book topics ranging from fire engines, to the sleek and sexy muscle cars of the 1960’s, to the fiasco known as the Yugo.   Books will be on sale and authors will sign books upon request.  The Wayne State University Press, a noted publisher of automotive history books, will be on hand offering for sale a diverse selection of its automotive titles.

“Now in its fifth year, the Book Fair demonstrates that the public is still in love with the nostalgia of the automotive industry”, stated Mark Bowden, Coordinator of Special Collections of the Detroit Public Library.  “These authors, through their books, help to preserve a history that is timeless and unique to American culture”.  

“The National Automotive History Collection is a magnet for researchers from around world in search of automotive facts, images, and historical insight”, stated Patrice Merritt, Executive Director of the Detroit Public Library Friends Foundation.  “The Book Fair is a tribute to their efforts and their utilization of the NAHC”.

The Book Fair is sponsored by The Friends of the National Automotive History Collection and the MotorCities National Heritage Area.  “We are proud to support the authors event of the NAHC”, stated Nancy Darga, Director of MotorCities, “Telling the great story of automotive history is a must if future generation are to understand what shaped our world as it is”. 

Paul Ingrassia author of Crash Course: The American Automobile Industry’s Road from Glory to Disaster and Arthur Einstein, author of Ask the Main Who Owns One: An Illustrated History of Packard Advertising will offer insightful presentations during the Book Fair.  For a complete list of participating authors visit detroitpubliclibary.org/nahc or call 313-481-1357.  The event is free and open to the public with parking available in nearby private and public lots.
