Jobs @ Cruis'news

Freelance Journalist - Nationwide

Are you a creative writer with news/event coverage experience? Do you enjoy writing about personal stories, fast cars, and the "good 'ol days"? Then we may have a need for you. Cruis'news Publications is currently looking to add to it's database of freelance journalists to help cover some of the many classic car events around the USA. With so many different events, it is hard for us to cover all of them, so this is where you would come in.

Who We Are

Cruis’news Publications is a company based in Metro Detroit that focuses on informing their customers about what is happening in the classic car industry through their monthly publication called Cruis’news Magazine and online at cruisnews.com. Cruis’news Magazine currently reaches approximately 10,500 subscribers with updated news and information on classic car shows, events, and swap meets. Whether in print, online, or other media formats, it is the goal of Cruis’news to enrich the lives of classic car enthusiasts by creating resources where they can obtain information, instruction, and entertainment regarding all things classic car related in an efficient, relevant, creative, and engaging format.

Who We Are Looking For

We are looking for an experienced news/event coverage journalist who will be able to take story direction from our Managing Editor and work, mostly without supervision, at an event (typically evenings and/or weekends) to get overall coverage of the event as well as pick up a few personal stories from attendees. After the event, the short to medium length stories (300 - 800 words) will be written and delivered on time for posting on the website along with any necessary supporting materials. Qualifications will include:

  • Proven experience covering news/events - this should not be your first time writing professionally or covering events
  • Ability to work under and meet tight deadlines (typical turn around from event to post will be 2-3 days)
  • 4-year English or Journalism degree is a plus, but not necessary
  • Ability to take digital photos for use with the article is a big plus, but not necessary

How to Apply

To apply for this position please send an e-mail to careers@cruisnews.com with the position you are applying for in the subject line. Please also include a copy or link to your resume, a short summary of your related work experience, a link to a few professional samples, and your standard rate. Cruis'news is looking to pay on a per project basis, so please state your rate as if you were covering an event for 2-4 hours and will be writing 2-3 short stories from it. If you do not have any professional (being paid to do work) experience or sample work, please do not respond as you will only be wasting both your and our time.

Thanks, in advance, for your interest in working with us!
